Senior Laboratory Technician

SUMMARY

The Senior Laboratory Technician at QualiChem provides technical support for Production, Customer Service, Marketing, and Sales. This person has the primary responsibility to conduct routine and non-routine analytical experiments using established analytical procedures and methods to support our customers and both product lines. The Senior Laboratory Technician must be able to work independently and have the ability to develop new methods and procedures on their own. In addition, the Senior Laboratory Technician is involved in providing Quality Control services for Production as needed. Job functions include analytical laboratory measurements (wet and instrumental), instrument maintenance, and data entry and analysis. He/she is responsible for providing a safe and clean work environment and for maintaining accurate and timely records. All activities are performed in the spirit of teamwork and cooperation practiced at QualiChem.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Analytical Support
    1. Knowledge and experience with analytical instrumentation, preferably FT-IR, GC, ICP, and IC.
    2. Perform routine and non-routine analytical experiments utilizing specialty instrumentation (FT-IR, GC, ICP, and IC).
    3.  Participate in the development of analytical methods.
    4. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
  2. Quality Control
    1. Team with production personnel to assure the quality of QualiChem products.
    2. Provide information from laboratory work that will allow the writing of blend instructions and to help troubleshoot quality issues.
    3. Establish control parameters for products (pH, viscosity, etc.) as needed.
  3. Production Support
    1. Obtain data to aid in the solution of problems during batch manufacture.
    2. Blending products in the laboratory to aid in the development of specifications and procedures.
    3. Analyze retains as required.
  4. Distributor Technical Support
    1. Analyze field samples using wet and instrumental methods.
    2. Perform analyses to aid in the determination of the composition of competitive products.
    3. Formulate product samples.
  5. Technical Competence
    1. Provide accurate and timely results.
    2. Keep aware of new developments, procedures, and instrumentation.
    3. Consultative with suppliers to obtain information necessary for job functions.
  6. Safety
    1. Read and be familiar with the contents of the Hazard Communication Program and Safety Manual.
    2. Wear safety glasses and other appropriate safety clothing and equipment.
    3. Practice safe laboratory procedures.
  7. Laboratory Cleanliness
    1. Clean and organize bench tops, drawers, and desk area.
    2. Maintain cleanliness and working order of all instrumentation and equipment.
    3. Organize and maintain raw material samples in the laboratory chemical closet.
  8. Record Keeping
    1. Maintain laboratory notebook.
    2. Maintain sample data log.
    3. Understand and utilize or ERP system (ChemPax).
  9. Teamwork
    1. Effectively communicate with customers, customer service, vendors, vendor technical support, etc., in person, on the telephone, and by email.

    2. Provide prompt and effective assistance when required by unplanned events.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree; preferably in Chemistry, and 1-3 years’ experience in a scientific laboratory.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing lab samples, data and figures; extensive reading and viewing a computer screen. The employee on occasion may be required to exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects.
